Hello New Jersey Motorsports Park Members, Track Partners, and Avid Fans
I write with great disappointment and displeasure to inform you that the planned Thunderbolt track expansion to create the new Devil’s Pass course configuration has been postponed until December 2025. Our NJMP team and contractors have been working diligently with the engineers and government authorities for over a year to gain approvals for the planned addition of 358 linear feet of asphalt to create the new layout.
Regulators wanted us to create water retention basins alongside the new short straight connecting the exit of Turn 7 with the Esses. Obviously, this is not appropriate for a racetrack environment, creating an unacceptable hazard. We have proposed reasonable alternatives for underground basins to collect and direct water to existing runoff and retention areas. These alternatives provide the desired result without creating an unsafe condition within the racing circuit.
Despite our efforts, investment, proposed solutions, and common-sense problem-solving, governmental processes and inefficiencies leave us without the necessary approvals and permits to add this short section of new asphalt to our 500+ acre facility. We have pushed back the planned construction start date several times this off-season while we continued to work to gain approvals, but with opening day six weeks away we have now reached the drop-dead date where we reluctantly must take the decision to postpone the project until December 2025.
We remain committed to the planned expansion and will work through the slow laborious processes to get the result we all look forward to enjoying once completed.
Thank you for your continued support.
